TANG WOH HENG

Mr Tang Woh Heng graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, in 1978 and a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics & Political Science, United Kingdom, in 1979. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales by Lincoln’s Inn on 26 July 1979. Mr Tang was in active practice with Shearn Delamore & Co and later with Arifin & Partners since his call to the Malaysian Bar on 13 October 1980. Mr Tang was a partner of the firm from 1985 to 31 January 2017. 

His areas of expertise are corporate and commercial law, conveyance/sale and purchase of real property, banking (conventional & Islamic), commercial litigation, scheme of arrangement and compromise, debt recovery, mediation and alternative dispute resolution. His particular interests include scheme of arrangement and compromise, rehabilitation of abandoned housing projects and mediation and alternative dispute resolution.

MASTURA MA’SUD

Puan Mastura Ma’sud graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, in 1988. She has been in active practice with Arifin & Partners since her call to the Bar on 7 September 1990. Puan Mastura has been a partner of the firm since 1995. She is currently the Managing Partner of the firm.

She has more than 31 years of experience in commercial and general litigation, banking and consumer credit (conventional & Islamic) with particular interests in banking litigation, mortgage and SME loans, credit card recovery, land law and compulsory acquisition. Her expertise in Malaysia Land Law has earned her a part-time lecturing post in the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), for land law subject from 2016 to 2021.

Despite her busy schedule, she finds time and pleasure in sports activities like swimming, running and hiking. Her personal achievements include participating in multitudes of running/marathon races and reaching Annapurna Base Camp, Nepal.

Puan Mastura can be described as a powerful, courageous, and caring maternal character in Arifin & Partners. She can be tough on her associates and staff but at the same time, she cares about them by listening, guiding, and taking interest in their lives. Being a meticulous person, she believes that early preparation for assignments or tasks is the key to success. She concludes – “If you haven’t got the time to do it right, when will you find the time to do it over?

STEVEN WONG CHIN FUNG

LLB (Melbourne)

Mr Steven Wong Chin Fung graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne, Australia in March 1990 and immediately started his pupillage with Arifin & Partners in April 1990. 

He has been with the firm since then and was called to the Malaysian Bar on 8 February 1991. He was made a partner of the Firm on 1 January 1995 together with Puan Mastura Ma’sud, on the same day.

Through their unfettered commitment to the firm, both Puan Mastura and Mr Steven have become lifelong friends and during the COVID-19 pandemic, the both of them have proven that “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.

He has more than 30 years of experience in commercial and civil litigation. His particular interests are automotive disputes, family law,  contentious probate proceedings, construction cases and commercial contract disputes.

He believes that lawyers should “practise law” and not otherwise.

He is an avid reader and lives by what Confucius says “A person’s survival depends on his integrity. Those who lack integrity only survive by a stroke of luck.”

FADIL AZUWAN ZAINON

LLB (Hons) (IIUM)

Mr Fadil Azuwan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2003. He has been in active practice with Arifin & Partners since his call to the Bar on 5 November 2004.

Banking is his field of expertise and the main areas of his practice are consumer loan (conventional & Islamic), debt recovery, bankruptcy, winding-up of companies and general litigation.

Being open-minded with new ideas, reliable and optimistic with any difficult situation are what he believes should be an individual’s personality traits. His interests include running and chess that keep him always fit and sharp. 

Numerous banking litigation cases handled by him have been reported in the Current Law Journal (CLJ) – which he considers one of the personal achievements in his life.

Mr Azuwan holds to the principle that one should have a vision in their life; “But any vision without action is just a daydream.”

FARIDAH NGATIMIN

LLB (Hons) (IIUM)

Ms Faridah Ngatimin graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2007. She has been in active practice with Arifin & Partners since her call to the Bar on 22 February 2008.

Her areas of practice are consumer loan and debt recovery (conventional & Islamic) and general litigation. She specializes in sales of properties, public auctions, and post-auctions matters. 

She believes that an individual should have a competitive spirit so that one would not be left behind in this fast-paced modern world. She also believes that being cooperative with your colleagues and subordinates helps you get further in your career. An enthusiastic person, Ms Faridah continues to undertake multiple advanced and special courses to increase general and specialized knowledge in her field of expertise.

Her principle of life is to live a good life, to promote kindness, respect and being helpful towards each other; “Because in a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

NUR DIANA RAMLAN

LLB (Hons) (UiTM)

Ms Diana Ramlan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Universiti Teknologi MARA in 2013 and joined Arifin & Partners as a pupil under the tutelage of Puan Mastura Ma’sud in October 2013. She was called to the Bar on 29 August 2014 and has been in active practice under Mr Steven Wong’s litigation team since then. Over the past few years, she has also assisted Mr Steven Wong in training pupils and interns under his tutelage.

Her areas of practice are general civil litigation, family law, wills, probate and inheritance. She has a special interest in contentious probate proceedings.

General civil litigation cases that she has dealt with include the following: contractual disputes, tortious claims, landlord and tenancy, debt recovery, enforcement of judgments, land acquisition, entry and removal of private caveats under the National Land Code, stay of winding up, and rectification of procedural defects and irregularities under the Companies Act.

Wills, probate and inheritance cases that she has dealt with include the following: inheritance claims, administration actions, trust disputes, contentious probate  propounding and challenging the validity of wills, and non-contentious probate — applications for grant of probate, letters of administration, letters of administration with will annexed, letters of administration de bonis non and substituted grant.

Family law cases that she has dealt with include the following: divorce, judicial separation, nullity, registration of foreign divorce, guardianship and custody, visitation and rights of access (including that of an illegitimate child and which involves paternity test), maintenance claims, division of matrimonial assets, disputes involving parental abduction, cross-border family law issues, domestic violence, adoption and committal.

She has also dealt with matters involving foreign counsels on the reciprocal enforcement of commonwealth judgment in Singapore, as well as the obtainment of mirror order in England and Wales.

Mr James Ng graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Northumbria in 2016 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales on 26 July 2018. 

He began his pupilage under the tutelage of Mr Steven Wong Chin Fung and was called to the Malaysian Bar on 20 September 2019. He has been in active practice with Arifin & Partners since 1 October 2019. His area of practice is in general civil litigation.

He is a sports enthusiast and his idol is Christiano Ronaldo. 

His motto is “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger“. 

NURUL EIZATUL NASRI

LLB (Hons) (UiTM)

Ms Nurul Eizatul Nasri graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Universiti Teknologi MARA in 2020 and was called to the Bar on 17 September 2021. 

She began her pupillage under the tutelage of Puan Mastura Ma’sud in September 2020. She has been in active practice with Arifin & Partners since then. Her areas of practice are banking litigation and general civil litigation.

She enjoys reading fiction novels and playing sports in her pastime. She also possesses musical talent and had performed in her secondary school, Sekolah Seri Puteri’s famed wind orchestra – SP Winds – for local and international competitions.  

Her motto is “It ain’t over till it’s over.”

TENGKU MOHD HAZWANHISYAM T.ZULKARNAINI

Mr Tengku Hisyam graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the International Islamic University in September 2020. He was called to the Bar on 24 September 2021. 

Tengku Hisham is a fitness enthusiast. Despite his busy schedule, he finds time to exercise, keep fit and enter fitness and sports races. He also enjoys cafe-hopping, reading and photography in his pastime. 

He has been in active practice with Arifin & Partners since 1 November 2021. His areas of practice are debt recovery and general civil litigation. 

His motto is “Take the risk or lose the chance.” 

NURUL AMIRA EZZATY NORDIN

LLB (Hons) (MMU)

Ms Amira Ezzaty graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Multimedia University in the year of 2021 and thereafter commenced her pupillage in Messrs Arifin & Partners – under the tutelage of Mr. Steven CF Wong. 

She was then called to the Bar on 29 July 2022. Her area of practice is general civil litigation, focusing mainly on family law, probate and administration matters, debt recovery, strata disputes and societies advisory.

Albeit joining the law degree in the first place because of her sheer interest in reading and playing the detective due to her heavy fixation on Agatha Christie’s novels – Ms Amira Ezzaty has eventually set her mind on becoming a lawyer after it came to her realisation that through the profession, she could be a voice to those disadvantaged by providing legal representation to those vulnerable groups in the society much like her earliest aspiration, Atticus Finch.

Her motto is “Simple in Virtue, Steadfast in Duty.”

Mr Tay Yeong Hui graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London and obtained his Certificate of Legal Practice in 2022. He was called to the Bar on 15 September 2023.

His areas of practice include general and commercial litigation, banking (conventional & Islamic), debt recovery and societies disputes.

ANIS AMEERA MOHD AZHAM

Ms Anis Ameera binti Mohd Azham graduated with Bachelor of Laws from Multimedia University in 2022. She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 24 November 2023.

Her areas of practice include general civil litigation and banking litigation, focusing on debt recovery, foreclosure, bankruptcy and winding-up of companies.

Ms Mahirah binti Mustofa graduated with Bachelor of Laws from University of Malaya in 2022. She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 24 November 2023.

Her areas of practice include, but are not limited to civil litigation and banking litigation, specialising in debt recovery, bankruptcy and winding-up proceedings.
